Cape Hillsborough Nature Tourist Park has seen five owners with Ben and Renae Atherton being the sixth along with their three children; Kira, Sean and Alysse.
The whole family are locally born and raised within the Mackay Region. Ben grew up in Sarina, Renae in Pleystowe and now their kids have the ultimate childhood stomping ground; Cape Hillsborough!
Ben and Renae previously owned and operated an earthmoving business in Sarina when in 2012 they decided to have a sea change literally in the hope of achieving a better family life / work balance. Is that laughter I hear, Yes!! We all know Ben and Renae struggle to keep their work load to a minimum but they are relishing in reshaping the park to ensure current and future guests can enjoy all that is on offer at Cape Hillsborough.
Speaking of enjoying our surroundings, Ben doesn’t mind casting a line or two to see what’s swimming in the ocean but make sure you remind him; unlike his son, he hasn’t caught that all too popular Barra that swims off our shores. As for Renae, she’ll be in a quiet shaded spot reading a good novel while the kids build a cubby or try to convince their Dad to rebate their hook in an attempt to outdo their fathers catch.
As a family the Atherton’s are looking forward to continually exploring Cape Hillsborough and discovering some of those hidden watering holes or become enticed by a particular species but most of all they are looking forward to growing and adapting Cape Hillsborough Nature Tourist Park so all families have the opportunity to reconnect, relax and enjoy what nature has to offer.
